Sail to the desert, Ghost towns and Diamonds in Namibia

We’re excited to announce that from 2023, our Adventure sail from Cape Town to St Helena island will now include a short stop in Luderitz, Namibia. This leg allows for more experience with passage planning and and gives our crew the perfect opportunity to get their "sea legs" before striking out on the long voyage to St Helena Island.

Lüderitz is a 3 to 4 day sail from Cape Town and Wavysail crews are in for a treat as we explore the historic, slow-pace-of-life, port-town of fishermen – where the Namibian desert cascades right to the ocean, it is a place full of rich history and a welcoming community. This lovely isolated part of the world was founded by Germans, who were attracted to its natural harbour and later discovered diamonds close by, making it a mining town.

While we’re there, our crew have a chance to visit  “Kolmanskop”, a few miles inland. Once a prosperous diamond mining town built in the early 1900s, it was completely abandoned leaving buildings of beautiful German architecture slowly filling with sand and the ghosts of the past.

Our crews agree, Luderitz is the perfect prelude before tackling the big ocean crossing to St Helena.
