Wavysail welcomes Saint Helena as an Open Oceans partner

Today, we are happy to announce that St Helena island will become an official partner to the Wavysail Open Oceans Fund. This will enable two fully funded places on Wavysail adventures to be made available to "saints", or those people closely connected to the island, over the next few months.

About Open Oceans

We set up the Open Oceans Fund to provide fully funded grants to those people who would otherwise not have the means, or the confidence to join an ocean adventure. Our aim is to make sailing more inclusive and to encourage anyone with an adventurous spirit to experience the magic of the wild, open ocean.

We have been regular visitors to St Helena island since we started Wavysail and our yacht, "Aurora" will be a familiar sight to many islanders - we have always loved the island and already work closely with many local businesses as well as the St Helena government. Therefore, this partnership is very special to us too - it is our way of giving something back to the community that has made us so welcome.

Open Ocean: St Helena Trip Details

The first recipient will join our January expedition, departing Jamestown on 11th February. In the days before departure, they will get to meet the skipper and other crew members and prepare for the trip ahead.

They will then sail with us as a regular member of the crew, under the care of skipper, Dave (wavy) Immelman and our first mate for the trip Heather Deary - both of whom are highly experienced sailors. This is a major ocean trip so some previous sailing experience will certainly be helpful, but we do not set any minimum requirements in terms of previous sailing. We will advise of all kit to pack and provide all safety equipment needed.

We will route west, deep into the South Atlantic before turning south towards Tristan da Cunha. Finally looping back towards Cape Town. Arriving in cape town by 28th February. A truly epic voyage. Included in the trip is the option to stay for up to 3 nights in accommodation that Wavysail will book for you and the cost of which is included in the grant. The only cost to the recipient is any meals or expenses, they have off the boat. St Helena are even covering the cost of the flight back to St Helena for those nominees who live on the island.

Open Oceans: Apply Today!

You can nominate yourself, or somebody you feel will benefit from the experience. Nominations are open until December 20th (so, be quick! ) and we will inform the recipient before January 2nd.
